CBT

A guide to your Compulsory Basic Training

What is it?

CBT was introduced in 1990 to try and reduce the number of accidents to first time riders and it has been working well ever since. Its a basic compulsory course intended to keep you safe on the road.

You can do your CBT anytime from the age of 16 on a 50cc, or if you are 17 and over you can use one of our geared 125s, although you can do it on a twist and go Honda Vision if you want to. The only condition is that you have a current licence or provisional licence, a willingness to have fun and positive attitude.

Ask about our EARLY RISER, TWO TOGETHER or SPLIT DAY CBT’s – these are ideal if you want to train with a friend or partner or can only get a half day off of work.

CBT TIME

Generally takes about 6- 7 hours

What you’ll need

 Licence

Strong shoes properly laced
Lunch and snacks (or money for some)
good strong pair of jeans or work trousers

We do supply everything you need, so if you haven’t ridden before and you haven’t had a chance to or haven’t wanted to splash out on all the gear, don’t worry – we’ve got it covered, and it’s included in the cost. Of course it goes without saying that if you have gear you would like to use – you’re more than welcome to. You can also use your own bike provided it has an MOT, is fully insured, and has L plates front and rear.

Element A: Intorduction to CBT, helmets and clothing.

Element B: The bike and its controls, Maintenance.

Element C: (fun part) learning some basic control skills

Element D: A review of the highway code

Element E: A road ride of at least 2 hours to put into practice what you’ve learned.

What if the weather’s bad?

Well. This is England. If it’s raining you get wet.
You needn’t be afraid of riding in the rain – its a great tutor. We do have some wet weather gear you can borrow and our instructors are fully qualified to help you ride whatever the weather. Of course, if we feel that the conditions are dangerous (for example, strong winds, thick fog, ice and snow) we’ll have to cancel and re-book. After all your safety is paramount to us.
